On July 6, patient Mr. Luo, after routine reexamination upon operation, was about to be discharged again. He successfully underwent heart transplantation at WCH a month ago.

On June 18, WCH’s Cardiovascular Surgery team, in association with the teams of Professor Zhang Qing and Professor Chen Yucheng from the Department of Cardiology, as well as the departments of anesthesia, extracorporeal circulation and critical care, successfully performed heart transplantation for Luo. As early as six months ago, also in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department, the patient underwent made-in China left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation surgery. This time, the operation was to remove the LVAD for heart transplantation after getting a suitable donor heart. To this end, the patient reduced his weight from nearly 100kg to 80kg within half a year, becoming the first patient in Southwest China to receive such heart transplantation. At present, the patient is in good condition, indicating that the surgical treatment of end-stage heart disease at WCH has become more mature and complete.
