From June 23 to 25, the 14th Russian
Thoracic and Cardiovascular Annual Conference and the First Russian-Chinese
Symposium on Thoracic Surgery were held in Saint Petersburg. Nearly 1,000
domestic and international colleagues attended the conference both online and
offline. Professor Pu Qiang and his team from West China Hospital’s Department
of Thoracic Surgery were invited to participate.
As the only international team invited to
perform surgical demonstrations at the conference, Professors Pu Qiang, Liu
Chengwu, Ma Lin, and Zhou Jian live-streamed two single-port thoracoscopic
lobectomies at the Saint Petersburg Tuberculosis Research Institute of the
Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The surgeries utilized the core
technology of " Single-direction thoracoscopic lobectomy," which was
globally pioneered by Professor Liu Lunxu from WCH's Department of Thoracic
Surgery. The innovative concepts and exquisite surgical skills received high
praise from international colleagues.
During the academic exchange session,
Professor Pu Qiang gave a presentation on "Lung Transplantation at West
China Hospital," Associate Professor Liu Chengwu spoke on
"Thoracoscopic Basal Segmentectomy," and Associate Professor Zhou
Jian presented on "Percutaneous Spherical Resection of Pulmonary
Nodules" and "Surgery Combined with Ablation for Multiple Primary
Lung Cancers," sparking lively discussions among international peers.
Professor Piotr Yablonsky, President of the
Russian Society of Thoracic Surgeons, highly praised the surgical
demonstrations and academic presentations by WCH's thoracic surgery team,
stating that they enhanced the academic level and value of the forum. He
expressed hope for strengthened cooperation and exchange between the two sides
to jointly promote further development in the field of international thoracic
surgery.
Under the leadership of academic leader
Professor Liu Lunxu, WCH's Department of Thoracic Surgery has pioneered a
series of globally unique techniques, including Single-direction thoracoscopic
lobectomy and percutaneous spherical resection of pulmonary nodules. This
invitation to demonstrate surgeries and present academic reports fully reflects
the international academic community's high recognition of WCH's thoracic
surgery development level and highlights the significant position in the
international thoracic surgery field.
