Recently, two teams from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, the research team led by Prof. Ma Xuelei from the Department of Biotherapy and the team led by Professor Li Sheyu from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, published an article titled “Efficacy of digital interventions for smoking cessation by type and method: a systematic review and network meta-analysis” in Nature Human Behavior (IF: 15.9).

The study conducted a frequency-based random-effects network meta-analysis on 152 studies to evaluate the smoking cessation effects of various digital interventions compared with standard care. The interventions were categorized by methodological approaches and types of communication technologies, with cross-matched subgroup analyses performed. The results indicated that personalized interventions and group-customized interventions significantly increased smoking cessation rates compared with standard care. Among the various technologies, SMS-based interventions had the strongest effect on smoking cessation.
