From September 12 to 15, the 2026 World
Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) was held in Seoul, South Korea, bringing
together more than 7,000 clinicians, researchers, nurses, and allied health
professionals from over 100 countries. The multidisciplinary team led by
Professor Lu You from the Thoracic Oncology Department at West China Hospital,
Sichuan University (WCH) received the Cancer Care Team Award (CCTA). The team
was one of only four recipients worldwide this year and the only winning team
from Asia. Two of the team's studies were selected for presentation at the
congress. Professor Lu You and Dr. Yao Zhuoran attended the award ceremony as
team representatives.

The WCLC is organized by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and is the largest multidisciplinary academic conference in the field of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies worldwide. Two studies from WCH were selected for presentation at the congress. A study on surgical approaches for early-stage lung cancer was selected for oral presentation, while research on specialist disease managers and patient outcomes in multidisciplinary lung cancer care was selected for poster viewing. These presentations showcased WCH's exploration in clinical research and care management for lung cancer.
The Cancer Care Team Award accepts nominations from patients, families, and caregivers worldwide. An international panel of judges selects winning teams from North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia and the rest of the world. The award recognizes teams that fully respond to patient needs and provide high-quality multidisciplinary care. Evaluation criteria include patient education and access to information, empathy, accessibility of care, clear communication, shared decision-making, and patient support and rehabilitation.
The winning team comprised 14 members from the Thoracic Oncology Department, the Department of Radiation Oncology, the CTC Center, the Department of Neurology, the Department of Neurosurgery at WCH, and the Department of Obstetrics at West China Second University Hospital. It exemplifies the role of interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration in the comprehensive management of patients with complex lung cancer.
