Recently, the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) was held in Lugano, Switzerland. Professor Wei Qiang, Specialty Director of the Urology Department and Director of the Urology Research Institute at West China Hospital, Sichuan University (WCH), led his team to the conference. He was also invited, as the representative from mainland China, to participate in the APCCC expert consensus panel.
Professor Wei, who serves as the Chair of
the Prostate Cancer Expert Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical
Oncology (CSCO), delivered an oral presentation on the epidemiological
characteristics of prostate cancer in China. He also presented the recent
progress and achievements made by the Primary Care Subgroup of the Chinese
Urological Association, which he leads. These advancements include primary care
strategies for prostate cancer, training for primary care physicians, promotion
of standardized diagnosis and treatment, and the development of relevant
clinical guidelines. His presentation demonstrated the practical outcomes of
China's efforts in building a prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment system
and strengthening primary care interventions.
During the conference, Professor Wei's team
presented four original research studies. The topics included environmental
exposure characteristics in relation to prostate cancer progression, circadian
rhythms and prostate cancer lineage plasticity, proteogenomic features of
prostate cancer development, and the interaction between blood tumor-related
gene variants and prostate cancer. These presentations highlighted the
Department of Urology's ongoing and significant contributions to basic research
and clinical translation in prostate cancer.
Conference Chair Professor Silke Gillessen,
Director of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI), also met
with Professor Wei's team. The two sides exchanged views on precision diagnosis
and treatment of prostate cancer, building translational research platforms,
international multi-center collaboration, and the development of young
researchers. The discussion laid a strong foundation for deepening future
international academic cooperation.
APCCC is one of the world's most
influential international consensus conferences in the field of advanced
prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Its expert consensus panel includes
more than 100 renowned specialists in the field. The consensus results will be
published after the conference in leading oncology and urology journals,
serving as a key reference for personalized treatment and clinical
decision-making for advanced prostate cancer worldwide.
