On June 11, a delegation led by Mr. Duval Barros, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Chengdu, visited West China Hospital, Sichuan University (WCH). Professor Hu Jiankun, Vice President of WCH, received the delegation in the administrative building's third conference room. Directors from relevant departments attended the meeting.
Professor Hu, on behalf of the hospital, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Duval Barros and his delegation. After briefly introducing WCH's recent development, he noted that China and Brazil have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. The 2026 "China-Brazil Year of Culture" is further deepening exchanges across various sectors between the two countries. He expressed the hope that, leveraging the platform established by the Brazilian Consulate General in Chengdu, both sides could explore their potential for collaboration in medical technology, scientific research, and talent development. He also anticipated that professional exchanges in WCH's key disciplines, such as colorectal surgery, could serve as a positive starting point for broader cooperation.
Mr. Duval Barros expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. He noted that bilateral cooperation between Brazil and China is becoming increasingly close, with healthcare being a significant area for future collaboration. He expressed his expectation to engage in substantive exchanges and cooperation with WCH in relevant specialized fields.
During the meeting, WCH presented an overview of the hospital, as well as the development of its Division of Surgery, Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and the Colorectal Cancer Center. Following the meeting, the two sides engaged in discussions on potential areas of cooperation.
