On September 5, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) 2026 Annual Congress opened in Barcelona, Spain. As one of the largest and most influential academic events in the field of respiratory medicine worldwide, the congress brought together renowned scholars from around the globe to showcase cutting-edge research. Teams from the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Department of Respiratory Therapy at West China Hospital, Sichuan University (WCH) attended the congress, presenting 66 high-quality research studies. The teams won two of the 14 "Best Abstract Awards" across the society's assemblies, making WCH the Chinese medical institution with the most awards at this year's congress. This achievement showcased the leading strength of China's respiratory discipline and the strong momentum of respiratory medicine development in western China.

At this year's ERS Congress, a total of 66 studies from the WCH respiratory team were selected for presentation, including 10 oral presentations and 56 poster presentations. The research covered more than ten disease areas, including lung cancer and pulmonary nodules, COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease (ILD), eosinophil-related diseases, respiratory infections, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-disordered breathing. The studies also spanned multiple dimensions, from pathogenesis and novel drug development to precision diagnosis and treatment, demonstrating a full-chain research framework from basic science to clinical application and from mechanism to translation.

In the ERS official announcement of the 2026 "Best Abstract Awards," one winner was selected from each of the 14 professional assemblies. Among them, six Chinese scholars were recognized, with WCH securing two of those positions, making it the Chinese medical institution with the most awards at this year's congress.
